An Eary Tale
A few weeks ago, James Cottrell, 28, of Runcorn in Cheshire, England,
was sentenced to nine years in prison for attacking a woman with a hammer
and stealing her bag.
While sitting in her car, the woman was hit with a hammer on her upper
body and arms before surrendering her bag to the attacker. Her attacker
made one critical mistake: He left behind his ear. James Cottrell was
well known by local police as the petty thief with the false ear. During
the attack, Cottrell's ear fell off. That clued police to the perpretrator's
identity.
Cottrell, now beginning his nine-year jail sentence, has not received
his ear back from authorities yet. Police said they will keep the ear
until they no longer need it as evidence. One wonders if Cottrell had
a hard time hearing the judge sentencing him to prison.
