If it's too loud, you're too stupid. From the Baton Rouge Advocate -- Billy Dee Benoit just loves the rockin' tunes. Hope he's rich - they're costing him $40,000 in bail money. Recently, Billy Dee Benoit, 18, was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail in Louisiana with charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated assault, battery on a police officer, aggravated flight from an officer, improper lane usage, driving left of center, reckless operation and two counts of disobeying a stop sign. It all started because the volume on his car stereo was too loud. Police Chief Steve Champagne said Benoit drove away from police when they tried to stop him for playing loud music in his car, an offense for which Benoit had already been stopped several times. Later, Sgt. James Papillion managed to stop Benoit and arrest him. The city magistrate then ordered police to remove Benoit’s stereo equipment. Undaunted, Benoit re-outfitted his car, cranked up the volume, drove by Sgt. Papillion's house and made a threatening gesture, Champagne said. Benoit shaped his hand like a gun, pointed it out the window at Papillion’s house and pretended to shoot, Champagne said, "which we take as a threat." Papillion called police who warned Benoit to stay away. Benoit returned and a chase ensued. Benoit tried to run Sgt. Papillion over with his car, according to Champagne. "Then he almost ran into a bunch of kids on the street, and we pursued him." Benoit ran several people off the road and eventually crashed into a lightpole at a local Winn-Dixie. --DailyDarwin.com Staff
